Product Description
Once again, the Maison Gruet tries to impress you with its flagship product, the Cuvée Arbane.
This is the name of a white wine grape, the Arbane, a “forgotten grape” of the terroir of Champagne. While more than 99.5% of the terroir of the Champagne region is planted with Chardonnay,
Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, four more (white) grapes are allowed to be used for making a sparkling wine which can be labelled as Champagne AOC: Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Arbane, Petit Meslier.
They cover just less than 0.5% of the terroir, and they are still allowed for historical reasons. As for Pinot Blanc, the Maison Gruet harvests a small parcel of Arbane, producing this unique Blanc de Blancs without Chardonnay.
Out of thousands of producers, only a handful can still offer a product like this, a heritage of the old days. The Arbane finds its natural environment in the clay-limestone soil from the Kimmeridgian Age which can be found in the Côte des Bar. A grape coming to maturity later than the others, it creates a Blanc de Blancs with a good equilibrium between mineral and the fresh, with notes of white flowers, white fruits and citrus.
